4th conference on species conservation

A large delegation from the ÖVVÖ took part in the 4th conference on species conservation in Thannhausen. During the almost 2 days, information and knowledge about the importance of species conservation projects in connection with zoo animal husbandry and private animal husbandry was exchanged in numerous presentations and discussions.

The importance of private keeping and breeding of animal species is increasing, especially for smaller and less conspicuous species, as zoos only have limited resources at their disposal. In this sense too, the conference was an important step towards further networking across national borders.

The current overview of various projects clearly showed that initial successes and reintroductions are already possible. However, a lot of work is still needed to preserve various species and that this can only be achieved through cooperation between official bodies, zoos and keeper associations.
