Manuel Harringer
Scleromystax sp. C 113
25.03.2016:
On the evening of 22.03.2016 I was able to receive the fish, and in the early hours of 23.03.2016 the animals moved into the prepared aquarium. The Scleromystax were purchased for the project from England via OF Aquaristik.
The animals are kept in a 100x40x40 cm tank that is filtered through two mobile hamburger mat filters and additionally aerated with an air stone. The setup consists of fine quartz sand as substrate, some driftwood pieces with attached plants on them and three stones that serve as additional structure. The group consists of two larger animals that are clearly recognisable as males and three smaller animals for which the sex cannot yet be determined with certainty, of course I hope for females. I currently have the following water parameters set: pH 6.2, KH 6°, temp. 24°C and a conductivity of 150µS.
I am currently treating one of the smaller animals with a medication against fungal infections because its tail fin is slightly "melted". This symptom seems to occur frequently in offspring from England.

Scleromystax barbatus
25.03.2016:
I received an adult pair of this species from Norway via Robert Budrovcan back in 2015. They are now included in the conservation breeding project for 2 years.
The two animals are kept in a 60x30x30 cm tank, filtered through a sponge filter and an additional powerhead. Fine light quartz sand covers the bottom, pieces of driftwood and large waterworn stones serve as hiding places and retreats. The pair has successfully spawned for the seventh time since January 2016, and juveniles in various sizes are available.
The water is tea-coloured, due to the addition of JBL Tropol and ctappa leaves. The following water parameters are present; pH between 6.5-6.7, KH at 5 and a temperature of 22°C.

25.03.2016:
I got 1 female and 3 males (adults) of this species from Norway via Robert Budrovcan in 2015. Unfortunately, the female has deformed pelvic fins and therefore cannot form a fin pouch, which she needs to be able to spawn successfully! Through the Mata Atantica project, 1 additional adult pair was purchased from England via OF Aquaristik.
The group is kept in a 60x40x40cm tank, filtered by a sponge filter and an additional powerhead. Fine light quartz sand covers the bottom, pieces of driftwood and large waterworn stones serve as hiding places and retreats.

Scleromystax macropterus
25.03.2016
The rare species was imported as juveniles from Aquatilis Zierfischwelten in spring 2015. The shipment was divided among three aquarists. Each has his animals, with some losses still in the stock. In my case there are 3 males and 3 females. These will now be included in the conservation breeding project for 2 years.
The animals are kept in a 60x30x30 cm tank, filtered through a sponge filter and an additional powerhead. Fine light quartz sand covers the bottom, pieces of driftwood and large waterworn stones serve as hiding places and retreats.
The water is tea-coloured, thanks to the addition of JBL Tropol and catappa leaves. The following water parameters are present: pH value between 6.8, KH at 6 and a temperature of 23°C.

25.03.2016
The animals were bought for the project from England, via OF Aquaristik. After initial difficulties with melting fins, one animal died. The group consists of 4 males, 2 females and one juvenile where the sex cannot yet be clearly determined.
The group is kept in a 70x30x30 cm tank, filtered by a sponge filter and an additional powerhead. Fine light quartz sand covers the bottom, pieces of driftwood and large waterworn stones serve as hiding places and retreats.
The water is tea-coloured, thanks to the addition of JBL Tropol and catappa leaves. The following water parameters are present: pH value between 6.5, KH at 5 and a temperature of 24°C.

Scleromystax prionotos
25.03.2016
On the evening of 22.03.2016 I was able to receive the fish, and during the night of 23.03.2016 the animals moved into the prepared aquarium. The Scleromystax were purchased for the project from England via OF Aquaristik.
They are six young fish (offspring) with 2.5 cm. Due to their size, the catfish have been placed in a community growout tank with the dimensions 40x40x20 cm. The other fish are juvenile Corydoras nattereri and Corydoras boesemani. The temperature is set at 24°C with 450µS. The tank is filtered through an air-driven internal filter.

The three animals, one of them with a deformed spine (bent), were placed in a prepared 80x60x30 cm tank. The water values are 23 °C and 450µS, filtered through an air-driven internal filter. The sexes are not quite sure yet, but it is probably two males and one female.

Scleromystax lacerdai
25.03.2016
The very rare species was bought for the project from England, via OF Aquaristik. The condition of the animals that arrived was not the best. The transport had taken its toll on the larger ones. The S.lacerdai are 3 adults and 5 juveniles of about 2.5 cm.
The group moved into a tank of 80x50x50 cm. It was filtered through a Hamburger matten filter and activated carbon. Average temperature was 22°C with a pH of 6.5.
From the initially weakened adults only 1 animal recovered, 2 animals died. There were no losses among the juveniles.
