Chromidotilapiine Cichlids Conservation Project

Due to the regrettable fact that more and more species of the group Chromidotilapiinen  Cichliden are becoming rare resp. are endangered, the previous Limbochromis Conservation Project will be embedded in a new, bigger project, the

Chromidotilapiine Cichlid Conservation Project (CCCP)

Within the CCCP we will soon create several subprojects, which will each deal with one species in more detail. There are different classes based on the importance of the preservation of the species:

The category A comprises (based on current scientific findings) such species that live in a small and narrowly defined area in nature that is known to be severely endangered by known effects (A1) or (may) inhabit just small areas and thus seem to be potentially seriously endangered species (A2).
The Category B comprises such species about whose status in nature we have no detailed information but whose distribution in nature is very limited as far as we know at present and thus might be endangered (B1).
Other types are those who might be well spread in a bigger area but are scarcely allowed to be imported for aquarists (B2) either for infrastructural reasons or for political-sociological reasons. And if one has to assume that, if the import that once had been possible, now might not be possible in the near future, the species should be handled with the utmost care by hobbyists.

A species in Category A might as well be in Category B. A species in Category A  may either fulfill the requirements for species conservation programs by zoos or scientific institutions or even of the IUCN Red List.
The status of each species covered by the project will be examined every 6 months and if need be the category adjusted.
